Workshop: Free event: Masquerade Workshop : Writing the story behind the scenes

St. Mary in the Castle, Saturday 26th November,  1:00 pm - 2:45 pm. Led by Rose Miller

Have you ever looked at a photo or painting and found yourself imagining the story?

You are invited to come along and write or recount a story based on an image from this exhibition. When results are compared, you might be surprised to discover the range of alternative responses.

The process of narrative exchange may in itself raise some critical issues:

  • Is the artist's starting point of any more relevance than a viewer's?
  • What is the relationship of the image to concepts of disclosure and concealment?
  • How much context does a viewer need?
  • At what point does representation become illustration?
  • Is it better in the end to forget the story?

This is a workshop for everyone. No experience required. Meet Rose at the reception desk in the exhibition. Please bring along something to write on - and something to write  with.
